They say there’s strength in numbers, right? Some ransomware groups have become so big and widespread; they have full-blown HR Departments. On the surface, many of these organizations keep up their façade by disguising themselves as ‘big tech companies’. This includes concealing the truth from many of their employees (which doesn’t seem very HR friendly in our humble opinion...)

Conti is a prime example of an organisation that acts under the pretense of a big tech firm. They tell many of their employees they are working for a pentesting organisation. But truthfully, they are one of the largest ransomware groups offering their customers Ransomware-as-a-service.

Aside from the burning curiosity to know what their Christmas parties are like, or if they get free breakfast, you should be thinking about the impact these types of organisations could have on your business.

We’ve compiled a few top tips to improve your cyber defence and stay one step ahead.

CYBER INSURANCE

As the cybersecurity landscape continues to change, insurance policymakers are refusing to underwrite policies or increase the premiums of current customers without robust risk framework in place and proof of what measures are in place to keep your organisation safe.

The NCSC have advised you should double-check your policy is up to date at least every 12 months. With so many new types of cyberattacks cropping up, it’s important to ensure new types of attacks are covered in your policy.

DIGITAL SUPPLY CHAIN

Ransomware groups have discovered this is where the money is at and Gartner has identified digital supply chains as one of the top security risks for 2022.

Despite this, many businesses still believe there is only a chance some of your processes might have to change if an issue crops up in your digital supply chain. Being proactive and risk scoring all aspects of your digital supply chain will help to identify where the cracks are, so corrective action can be taken. Further, vendor consolidation will help reduce the complexity of your digital supply chain and reduce risks and TCO.
