As Intercity celebrates 40 years in business, we're excited to share a mini-documentary series, #BORNIN85, shining  a light on Birmingham’s entrepreneurial heart. Featuring stories from local businesses, innovators and partners who helped shape the city from the 1980s to today. It also looks back at what it was like to work at one of the UK’s first B2B mobile technology specialists, exploring how business, technology and the city have evolved, and where we're heading next.

That’s why we’ve taken a moment to speak to those who’ve lived through it and are building the future in our documentary series #BORNIN85. This isn’t about nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake. It’s about showing how the city has evolved, adapted and continues to innovate.

Birmingham has truly earned its place as the UK’s second city a hub of diversity, culture, and innovation. But it hasn’t always been this way. Just a few decades ago, Birmingham was defined by its manufacturing roots, particularly in the automotive industry. The city looked very different back then, from the bustling factories to the nightlife of Broad Street, the Bullring, and the Jewellery Quarter, each with its own story to tell.

From the iconic Symphony Hall to the leafy streets of Edgbaston, and the heart warming work at Acorns Children’s Hospice, #BORNIN85 uncovers the people, places, and stories that have shaped Birmingham. It shines a light on the side of the city that often goes unnoticed, celebrating the culture, communities, and individuals who have helped define its character over the past 40 years.

We can’t wait to share the first episode coming very soon!
