MEET OUR SPEAKERS
CHARLIE BLAKEMORE
A high-flyer with 40 years’ experience in the engineering, aerospace and technology sectors. As a passionate leader, Charlie Blakemore joined the Intercity team as a non-executive board member in 2015. In 2018, he became full-time COO to help streamline and enhance the transformational delivery of IT projects across the business portfolio. Charlie was promoted to Group Managing Director in December 2019.
Charlie is a fellow of the Association of Project Managers (APM) and Institute of Directors (IoD) and amassed vast experience in his 34 year career with BAE Systems which included leading their £1.2 BN Global Land Business and then executive board positions in their Maritime and Air Sectors businesses. This involved successfully leading business transformation and delivering large complex projects including Typhoon, Hawk, F35, Type 45 frigate and Air craft carrier.
He now ensures that Intercity’s first-class technology solutions and customer service are delivered effectively and efficiently, with a people-first focus across our business and customers.
PHIL BINDLEY CISSP
Phil joined Intercity in January 2020 as the Managing Director for the Cloud and Security Division to drive the continued growth and success of the business. Phil has an in-depth background in designing and implementing cloud and security solutions for many of the UK’s largest and most security-conscious organisations.
Phil is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) with 20+ years of experience in this field working on numerous transformation projects both in the UK and more widely across Europe. His philosophy is that Information Technology and Information Security exist as a mechanism to make businesses successful in today’s world. Having started his career in a technical capacity, he rose through the ranks to take on the positions of both CTO and then Managing Director. Phil has a wide-ranging commercial and technical acumen that helps organisations achieve their goals and ambitions.
VANESSA EYLES
Vanessa joined West Midlands Police in 1993 and has delivered on a range of roles including as Senior Investigating Officer within the Force CID department, overseeing firearms offences, kidnaps and attempt murders, and then in the Public Protection Unit overseeing Complex Child Abuse cases across the Black Country area. Throughout her career Vanessa has been passionate about prevention of crime.
As Detective Superintendent Vanessa aims to reach as many businesses as possible to help them become cyber safer. This is through an innovative partnership of Business, Academia and Policing. Vanessa is Director of the West Midlands Cyber Resilience Centre, a part Government funded, not for profit and Police led business set up to help businesses get safer online.
CRAIG FLINDALL
Craig is the Chief Operating Officer after originally joining the Club as Finance Director in 2010. He is responsible for finance, stadium development and operations, events and hospitality. Craig is also the General Manager of the Birmingham Phoenix team in The Hundred and a Trustee of WCCC’s official charity, the Edgbaston Foundation.
Craig’s role prior to joining the Club was in Corporate Finance at EY, where his projects included advising WCCC on securing its principal redevelopment funding for the first phase its stadium Masterplan from Birmingham City Council and Advantage West Midlands. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant at KPMG before joining AXA Sun-life.
Craig was the Chairman of the Lord’s Taverners charity in the West Midlands until 2021.
