Why we're backing WM Life Sciences Week

Written by Intercity | Sep 16, 2025 7:24:06 AM

This week marks the very first West Midlands Life Sciences Week (15–19 September 2025), and we’re proud to be on board as a Gold Sponsor.

The week is all about shining a spotlight on the West Midlands as a serious force in life sciences. It is already off to a strong start. The launch at Millennium Point brought together researchers, innovators and business leaders to kick things off with energy and intent. Across the week, events are taking place right across the region, from Birmingham to Coventry, Warwickshire, Staffordshire and Shropshire.

Why it matters

Life Sciences Week is more than a showcase. It is about connecting the dots between healthcare, academia and industry to accelerate breakthroughs that can genuinely transform lives. This means exploring everything from AI in healthcare to medical device regulation, from sustainability in life sciences to investment opportunities for early-stage companies.

The West Midlands is perfectly placed to lead that charge. With over 1,000 life sciences companies employing more than 50,000 people, the region is already a hub of health innovation. It is supported by world-class universities, the NHS and cutting-edge facilities like the Precision Health Technologies Accelerator (PHTA) at Birmingham Health Innovation Campus.

A thriving programme

Some of this week’s highlights include:

A roundtable symposium exploring how NHS regions are driving forward life sciences research.

Workshops on AI and software in life sciences, plus guidance on funding, investment and intellectual property.

Sessions on sustainable practices and ecosystem building for the future of healthcare.

Networking events that bring together investors, academics, policy-makers and businesses of all sizes.

Our role in the ecosystem

At Intercity, we are proud to play a part in that growth. We worked with the PHTA to deliver the secure connectivity, IT infrastructure and collaboration tools that form the backbone of their new facility. That means researchers, clinicians and startups working at the Birmingham Health Innovation Campus can share data, protect IP and scale their work with confidence.

It is a perfect example of how the right digital foundations can accelerate breakthroughs in precision medicine and life sciences.
