What a week for tech and for the West Midlands. BTW proved once again that our region isn’t just part of the UK’s digital story; it’s helping write the next chapter. The West Midlands continues to lead in applied AI and digital innovation, fresh thinking and collaboration, this year’s events showed just how far the local ecosystem has come. It was a true Quantum Leap for tech, a theme that echoed throughout every session and conversation.
As proud patrons of Tech West Midlands, we were right in the mix from leadership discussions to stories on the developing Cyberverse. But more importantly, it was a week for connection: where like-minded leaders shared ideas, challenges, and practical solutions to shape the future of tech in the region.
And if there was one consistent theme that carried through every panel, pitch, and presentation, it was AI. Whether tackling it as a new line of defence, a fast-emerging risk, or a game-changer for productivity, AI stole the spotlight and reminded everyone that the future isn’t coming, it’s already here.
Birmingham showed once again why it’s known as the 'Second City' and why it’s fast becoming the first choice for innovation. With over 3,000 tech businesses contributing a combined £15 billion to the regional economy already, the West Midlands is firmly established as a hub of innovation, collaboration, and digital growth.
Birmingham Tech Week offered countless opportunities for collaboration, learning, and sharing insights. Our very own Charlie Blakemore chaired an exclusive leadership discussion, joining other industry experts to tackle the challenges of AI and digital security. The session highlighted one key message: get the basics right. From there, conversations naturally expanded into the importance of upskilling teams to adapt to this once-in-a-generation shift in technology.
Our Chief People Officer, Melanie King, shared practical insights on how businesses can unlock potential through their people, illustrating how culture and capability are central to tech adoption. Meanwhile, Phil Bindley led a discussion at the Cyberverse event, focusing on resilience and threat trends across the business landscape.
"Cyberverse was the first time during Birmingham Tech week that a full day event on Cyber Security took place. I was delighted to be invited to speak during the event and shared some insights into the Cyber Security risks faced by organisations, specifically on the impact that Artificial Intelligence (AI) presents both as an increased threat and upon the opportunity to utilise AI defend ourselves better." - Phil Bindley, Field Chief Information Security Officer
All of this was made possible by our incredible team, from hosting our exhibition stands to capturing behind-the-scenes moments throughout the week. It was a proud celebration of Birmingham, and we want to recognise every business, innovator, and visitor who made Tech Week such a success. The dedication, energy, and collaboration on display reminded us why the West Midlands is a true hub for tech.
